If Derek and Stiles became involved on the show, the freedom that comes with fandom disappears, and now the constraints of canon do apply.

I'm not going to reply to the rest of this because I've written my own thing already, but I have seen this line around multiple times now and IT IS CONFUSING ME. Tons of people break up Scott and Allison's forever to have Scott with Isaac. Tons of ppl still wrote Buffy/Spike even after their mutual meltdown -- often completely ignoring canon. So where does this "if it becomes canon and they fuck it up IT WILL BE UNFIXABLE AND NO FUN" line of argument come from? I mean, I can understand feeling slightly pressured to incorporate new parts of the show/relationship in fic, but I'm pretty sure we can definitely say that canon in no way shape or form has ever stopped fandoms from writing dudes getting it on.
