Ah yes, I was not clear. The constraints of canon don't apply to fandom, but they do apply to how the relationship is written into the show. We have no such constraints, but Jeff Davis does. We can handwave and ignore canon and basically do whatever we want, but on the show, a relationship between Derek and Stiles will always mean Stiles falls in love with someone who was at one point verbally and physically abusive to him, and for that to be okay with me on the show, there needs to be a significant amount of work done. So no, it is certainly not going to stop fandom, and I would never imply otherwise, but it is going to affect how much I believe/enjoy their romantic relationship on the show. I mean, if they do become canon, I would rather it be something I enjoy than something I find uncomfortable and problematic, even if I can still do whatever I want in fandom.
